David K. Pennington Elected AASA President-Elect

Alexandria, Va., April 19, 2013. David K. Pennington, superintendent of the Ponca City Public Schools, Ponca City, Okla., has been elected the 2013-14 president-elect of AASA, The School Superintendents Association. Pennington is presently a member of the AASA Executive Board. He served on the AASA Governing Board from 2004-2010 and has been a member of the organization and of the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators since 1993. "David has taken important leadership roles at both the state and national levels," said AASA executive director Daniel Domenech, in announcing the results of the election. "He has demonstrated leadership both in the business of instruction and in the management of schools. We are delighted to have him take on this new role."
Pennington received a B.S., an M.S., and an Ed.D. from Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, Okla. He was president of the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators in 2004 and continues to serve on its Board of Directors. Prior to coming to Ponca City Public Schools, he was superintendent of the Blackwell Public Schools, in Blackwell, Okla.
"I am excited about this new opportunity to work with AASA," said Pennington. "I believe that the superintendents who lead our schools should have a place at the table when national educational policy is being debated. It is our responsibility to ensure that AASA remains a strong voice for our schools and our profession."
All the newly elected officials will begin their terms on July 1. Amy Sichel, superintendent of the Abington Public Schools, Abington, Pa., will be installed as 2013-14 AASA president and Pennington will be sworn in as 2013-14 AASA president-elect during a ceremony at the summer meeting of the Governing Board in Alexandria, Va., on July 10.
