Letter-o-rama: Charters, Research and Affordable Care Act

File this under better late than never, and a little less witty than regulations-o-rama

AASA recently sent letters in response to legislation on Capitol Hill.

  • AASA supported the Strengthening Education through Research Act (HR 4366), to reauthorize the Education Sciences Reform Act. AASA doesn't have a huge stake in this conversation, but we are interested in education research and the fact that it is a bipartisan effort by the House.
  • AASA opposed the House's recent charter school legislation, the Success and Opportunity through Quality Charter Schools Act (HR 10). We have this crazy idea that all entities receiving public dollars should face the same accountability, flexibility and transparency requirements. We are not opposed to public charter schools, but we are opposed to preferential treatment for charter schools.
  • AASA supported the Save American Workers Act, a bill related to the Affordable Care Act that would redefine the threshold for average work week from 30 hours to 40 hours.
