Raymond A. Gonzalez
The new superintendent in Wayne, N.J., is Raymond Gonzalez. He assumed the top berth in the 9,000-student district after 13 years elsewhere in New Jersey, most recently as interim superintendent and assistant superintendent in Hackensack. Gonzalez earlier spent four years as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and special education in Paterson after serving as a principal in Washington Township, N.J. A member of AASA since 2011, he got his start in education as a bilingual education teacher in Paterson. He received an Ed.D. in educational administration from Rutgers University.

The Lafayette, Ind., School Corporation has a new superintendent in Les Huddle, who joins the district after five years as superintendent of Jacksonville, Ill., School District 117. Earlier, he served for five years as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in Moline, Ill., and as principal in elementary schools in Champaign, Ill., and DeWitt, Iowa. Huddle began his career in education teaching in Monmouth, Ill. He became a member of AASA in 2011.

Following a year as acting superintendent, Russell Mayo moves into the permanent superintendency of the 18,000-student Allentown, Pa., district. Mayo joined the district in 2004 and served as deputy superintendent for seven years. He previously held a professorship at Lehigh University and served as superintendent in Columbia, Mo., and associate superintendent in Little Rock, Ark. Mayo was a teacher and principal in Syracuse, N.Y., and Roanoke, Va. A member of AASA since 1988, Mayo has worked in five states. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Virginia.

The Caroline County Public Schools in Denton, Md., have a new superintendent, Khalid Mumin. He most recently worked as the director of secondary education in the Centennial School District in Warminster, Pa. An educator for 15 years in Pennsylvania, Mumin earlier served as a middle school principal in Warminster and in the New Hope-Solebury district. He also was a homebound school instructor in the Central York district and coached basketball and football. An AASA member since 2004, Mumin holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.


Darin Powell
Darin Powell, an AASA member since 2011, has been named superintendent of the Bowling Green, Mo., R-1 School District. His promotion follows three years as principal and one year as interim superintendent in the district. Powell earlier was a principal and assistant principal, athletic coach and mathematics instructor in Missouri’s Hannibal High School, from which he graduated. He is an adjunct professor at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo.
PeopleSchumannJeffrey A. Schumann
Jeffrey Schumann begins his first superintendency in July in Enfield, Conn., after more than three decades of work in the state’s public schools. Schumann is in his sixth year as deputy superintendent in Newington, where he has worked since 1998, starting as an assistant principal. Previously, Schumann taught science and physical education in Wethersfield for 18 years. A member of AASA since 2007, he serves as an adjunct professor of educational leadership at the University of Hartford. He earned a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Connecticut.
