A Superintendent’s Superintendents

Mike LubelfeldImagine if you had an opportunity to discuss your school district’s successes and challenges, and receive a solid dose of peer coaching?

The opportunity arrived for Mike Lubelfeld, superintendent of schools for the Deerfield, Ill. Public Schools, at the AASA Collaborative Summer Conference in San Antonio. Lubelfeld attended the three-day conference as a guest of AASA and presented a case study consultancy model, which was followed by thought-provoking discussion and feedback by Collaborative members as if he wasn’t in the room.

“It was more than telling a leadership story and more than an elevator speech,” Lubelfeld said. “I appreciated hearing a real candid review from other superintendents, and Yong Zhao and Heidi Hayes Jacobs. “To me, it was a meaningful exercise. It was a critical conversation and a great practitioner challenge.”

Part of AASA’s mission is to help superintendent excel on the job and help their school districts get to the next level. According to Lubelfeld, he received “next-level leadership expertise.”

Lubelfeld is the co-host of #suptchat, an online conversation via Twitter, held on the first Wednesday of each month, on the superintendency.

The AASA Collaborative Summer Conference is being sponsored by Hobsons. For more information about the Collaborative, visit the AASA website.
