 Effie Jones 2018

Celebrate the legacy and impact of Dr. Effie H. Jones, former Associate Executive Director of AASA, who championed equity and excellence in education. This year the luncheon will focus on how our nation is moving towards education equality.

Catherine E. Lhamon, U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Chair, AASA’s inaugural Tom Sobol Lecturer is this year's keynote speaker.

Chair Lhamon will share her experience as Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the Department of Education during the administration of President Barack Obama. She will provide insight on efforts to move our nation to true educational equality, holding up a magnifying glass to Commission investigations on education funding inequities, the school-to-prison pipeline, the intersection of students of color with disabilities and hate incidents on school campuses.

During the luncheon learn more about the Commission's newly-published report, Public Education Funding Inequity in an Era of Increasing Concentration of Poverty and Resegregation.
