Anthony Lewis

Superintendent, Lawrence Public Schools

Dr. Lewis, a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, began his educational journey as a high school Special Education Teacher, eventually becoming Principal of a high-poverty, high-performing elementary school, achieving remarkable results. He also assumed key roles in the Kansas City, MO school district, including Principal, Director of Elementary Schools, and Assistant Superintendent. Dr. Lewis completed The School Superintendents Association’s (AASA) Urban Superintendents Academy in partnership with Howard University and went on to become the ninth Superintendent of Lawrence Public Schools. Appointed to the Kansas African American Affairs Commission, he helps to address public policy concerns within the African-American community, fostering partnerships with state agencies, corporations, and foundations. In his spare time, Dr. Lewis enjoys serving as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Kansas in the School of Education and Human Sciences.
