Christopher Nesmith
Christopher Nesmith is the Superintendent of the Elma School District in Elma, Washington. With a Bachelor's Degree from Central Washington University, a Masters Degree from the University of Washington, and completing his Doctorate from Washington State University, Chris is a highly qualified educational leader with a passion for student success.
Chris is deeply committed to AASA Redefining Ready and preparing students for career, college, and life readiness. He played a key role in designing Youth Apprenticeship in Washington State, including the first in-school manufacturing youth apprenticeship. He also serves on the WA Department of Labor Apprenticeship Council committee for Pre-Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship Preparedness, as well as the Education Apprenticeship, which includes the para and certified teacher registered apprenticeship.
In addition, Chris has traveled to ETH Zurich, Switzerland to study the TVET Dual Education system to bring those best practices back to Washington State, where he helped design Career Connect Washington, the state's youth apprenticeship initiatives. This work on apprenticeships and career pathways served as a model for multiple pathways to graduation under WA HB 1599. Expanding graduation opportunities to students completing rigorous career pathways programs of study.
