Jimmer Fredette

2024 Olympian, Former NBA Player and Founding Member, Choose Kindness

James Taft “Jimmer” Fredette was born and raised in Glens Falls, New York where he graduated from Glens Falls High School in 2007. Upon graduation, Jimmer attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, UT on a full-ride basketball scholarship where he majored in American studies.

During his basketball career at BYU, Jimmer set numerous records: most points scored in a single game, most 3-pointers made in a single game, he became the conference all-time leading scorer, and broke BYU’s career scoring record.

Jimmer’s senior year at BYU is better known as “Jimmermania.”  That year (2011), Jimmer won every major college basketball player of the year award, including: Naismith College Player of the Year, The Oscar Robertson Trophy for National Player of the Year, AP Player of the Year, the John Wooden Award, and the ESPY for the Best Male Collegiate Athlete.

After his historic collegiate career at BYU, Jimmer was selected number 10 overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2011 NBA draft and went on to play in the NBA for five seasons.

Beginning in 2016, Jimmer played three seasons in the Chinese Basketball Association where he led his team to three consecutive playoff appearances and was named MVP of the league in 2017- averaging 38 points per game.

In 2019, Jimmer went to Europe to play in the Euroleague for Panathinaikos in Athens, Greece where he was a Greek All-Star and helped his team win the Greek League championship. In 2020, Jimmer returned to China for his second stint with the Shanghai Sharks and enjoyed another record-setting season in the CBA.

Jimmer is the Founding Member of the Fredette Family Foundation (Jimmerosity). Through the foundation’s Choose Kindness program, Jimmer interacts and enjoys working with elementary, middle, and high school students to help fight bullying and promote principles of kindness.

Jimmer and his wife, Whitney, have two children and a dog named “George.” He enjoys spending time with his family, and in his free time playing golf.
