Jonathan Cooper

Superintendent, Mason City School District (Ohio)

Jonathan Cooper has been the lead learner at Mason City Schools since 2018, and his district is a Hope Squad district. His community-sourced leadership style includes regular two-way communication with staff, students, families and members of the public. Before becoming the MCS Superintendent, he was Mason’s Chief Innovation Officer. He was also an award-winning elementary teacher in Centerville City Schools and a successful school principal in Kettering City Schools. A Martha Holden Jennings Scholar and former Ohio Teacher of the Year nominee, Jonathan was able to successfully merge two diverse elementary school staffs and communities into a strong, thriving and unified Southdale Elementary in 2010. He earned his Bachelor of Education from Ball State University, his Master of Science in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton, and his Doctor of Education from Miami University.
