Pedro Roman

Superintendent, Hyde Park Schools (N.Y.)

Dr. Pedro Roman joined the Hyde Park Central School District as the Superintendent of Schools in July 2023. Dr. Roman was drawn to Hyde Park, seeking an opportunity that paired his zeal for engaging a team approach to systemic change with an equity lens. In his role as Superintendent, Dr. Roman is responsible for working with the Hyde Park Board of Trustees and school community to promote the district’s vision and mission, manage finances, personnel, and resources, and ensure students and staff have optimal teaching and learning conditions to empower them to strive for excellence and embrace the opportunities of our globally connected world.

With more than 23 years of experience in the public education sector, Dr. Roman has served as a Teaching Assistant, Special Education Teacher, Dean of Students, Principal, Assistant Superintendent-Chief Equity Officer, and Chief of Human Resources. He believes in a moral imperative that ensures every student deserves access and opportunity to a first-class education to reach their limitless potential.

Dr. Roman, born in the Bronx, NY, relocated to Upstate New York with his mother and sister at 11 for a better life. He credits the education and access to post-secondary opportunities from his English and Science teachers and school counselor, which helped change his life trajectory. Dr. Roman was the first in his family to graduate from college and earn his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Sage College. He has dedicated his life to education to improve student outcomes and see all students thrive and succeed. As a data-driven leader with in-depth knowledge of human resources, continuous improvement, and academic reform strategies, Dr. Roman firmly believes that with great principals and educators in our schools and the right services and support, ALL students can learn and rise above any challenge. Furthermore, by setting high expectations, building relationships, and providing students a voice, many more young people will demonstrate the aptitude and aspiration to perform at higher altitudes and be well-prepared for success in college, career, and civic life.

Dr. Roman earned his Ed.D. from Sage College, his M.S. from St. Rose College in Albany, and his B.S. from Marist College in Poughkeepsie. He graduated from the AASA Inaugural Class of Aspiring Latino/Latina Superintendents Academy and the Emerging Human Capital Leaders Initiative from the Urban Schools Human Capital Academy. In his pursuit of a work-life balance, Dr. Roman enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Melanie Roman, two sons, Nicholas and Ahmani, and two fur babies, Chewie and Bea. Dr. Roman also enjoys spending time outdoors and reading leadership and self-help books in his spare time.
