AASA and NCAN Publish FAFSA/Summer Melt Guide

AASA and the National College Attainment Network (NCAN) have published a new recommendations guide to prevent the summer melt and keep this year's seniors on track for FAFSA completion. The guide, developed with the current challenges to FAFSA in mind, provides considerations for district leaders to adopt to support students in their district, including tapping into existing ESSER funds for summer support (Secretary Cardona’s November 2022 “Dear Colleague,” letter advises that “[Providing] strong career and college advisement and navigation supports” is an allowable use for remaining American Rescue Plan funds). NCAN has previously provided FAFSA resources and recommendations for AASA members to help students in their district navigate the hurdles associated with the 2024-25 FAFSA. We are happy to continue working with NCAN for the benefit of high school seniors, especially first-generation college students and students from low-income backgrounds.
