AASA Submits Comments on Proposed Update to the School Nutrition Standards

Today, AASA sent comments to the U.S. Department of Agriculture on the proposed updates to the school nutrition standards that were released in February. Our comments expressed deep concerns with the impact of the proposed standards on the palatability of school meals and therefore student participation in school meal programs. Specifically, we urge USDA keep the sodium standards at their current levels. We also highlight the financial implications of the standards and ask USDA to ensure districts have sufficient resources before implementation begins.
