Districts Recognized for Out of School Time Excellence
June 20, 2024
This blog post comes from Bryan Joffe, director of AASA’s Children Programs.
AASA has been a key partner in the US Department of Education’s Engage Every Student Initiative launched by Secretary Cardona in July 2022. Engage Every Student is a call-to-action to provide high-quality out-of-school time learning opportunities for every child or youth who wants to participate. Through the American Rescue Plan, schools, communities, and states have had access to additional funding to further support high-quality expanded learning programs and the well-being and academic growth of millions of students.
AASA’s Children’s Programs team, which leads philanthropic and federal partnerships and grants, has been working on this initiative since 2022. We’ve engaged AASA members across the country in summits, webinars, and at conferences with tools and resources to expand afterschool and summer learning opportunities in districts.
On July 16, the 2024 Engage Every Student Summit will be held at the MLK Library in Washington, DC to acknowledge Engage Every Student Recognition Program Champions honoring partnerships between OST programs and school districts. Bryan Joffe and Kayla Jackson of AASA will be in attendance as AASA co-hosts the event.
