It’s Time We Talk About FAFSA
March 25, 2024
This blog post ran as an email from AASA Executive Director David R. Schuler to all members, and is cross-posted here so we can disseminate on social media and elsewhere. Thank you.
If you’re like many of the superintendents I’ve spoken with lately, it’s safe to say that FAFSA completion rates are on you and your staff’s minds. Due to the delayed rollout of the “Better FAFSA,” the National College Attainment Network (NCAN) FAFSA Tracker shows the 2024 Class is behind on submissions by about 33% compared to the 2023 Class.
We must help our seniors get back on track. Closing the gap on FAFSA completions will give our seniors the financial aid information they need to make informed decisions about their postsecondary pathways.
This is an all-hands-on-deck moment, and here’s what AASA is doing to support FAFSA completion efforts:
- Collaboration between the U.S. Department of Education, NCAN, and other K-12 and higher education partners is ongoing. Read our latest blog post by Bill DeBaun at NCAN for an overview and updates.
- You can download, customize and share this ready-made message with your staff to connect them with the resources they need.
- A resource hub now exists on AASA's website, and it includes fact sheets, guides and a wealth of other materials.
Is your district struggling with completion rates this FAFSA cycle? Submit this quick form to remain connected with upcoming resources and opportunities on this issue.
The journey to postsecondary education is a dream for many of our graduates; access to financial aid opens doors and makes this dream more attainable.
AASA will continue to make this a priority and we’ll be in touch with additional updates soon.
