Alexandria, Va. – Feb. 16, 2021 – For the seventh-straight year, the ever-popular Social Media Lounge will be among the many attractions at the virtual 2021 National Conference on Education, hosted by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, February 18-19.

This year’s topic is The Voice of Superintendents on Equity and Inclusiveness, focusing on how superintendents can use social media to make their voices heard on important equity and inclusivity issues to enhance their districts’ communications with their communities and stakeholders.

“Beyond the traditional modes of communication, social media is the format most of our students, parents and community members go to first to get the latest updates during the pandemic. From social media posts, stakeholders are guided to podcasts, blogs, newsletters, internet/intranet websites, videos and special purpose publications all with the goal of telling our narrative,” said Renae Bryant, director, English learner and multilingual services, Anaheim Union High (Calif.) School District. “It is so important for superintendents to have time to network together and learn from each other through social media.”

“Social media continues to shape the political landscape and has a significant impact on leadership in the 21st century,” said Matthew Montgomery, superintendent, Revere (Ohio) Local Schools. “Our leaders must be equipped with the skillset to successfully navigate sometimes tumultuous waters within their communities and beyond.”

“It is truly an honor to engage with tech-savvy superintendents during our annual national conference through our Social Media Lounge,” said Gayane Minasyan, AASA online technologies director. “At a time when our school districts are working to enhance their commitment toward equity in education, we are looking forward to covering the latest trends in 21st-century digital communications.”

“Attendees can gain hands-on social media assistance, make new connections and take advantage of the networking opportunities with peers who are leading the way in today’s social media landscape,” said Juli Valentine, AASA digital content editor. “We look forward to discussing how school districts are achieving their social media goals and how we can help.”

Superintendents can engage with their peers online by using the hashtag #NCE2021  in their Twitter, Facebook and Instagram posts. Attendees are also encouraged to join AASA’s NCE Facebook Group as another means for staying connected.
