Alexandria, Va. – (July 14, 2021) – Shari L. Camhi, superintendent of the Baldwin Union Free School District in Baldwin, N.Y., was sworn in today as the 2021-22 president-elect of AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

Under her leadership, the graduation rate at Baldwin Schools has climbed to 98%, ranking the high school among U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best High Schools for the last two years. In addition, her district has achieved the “New York State Recognition School” distinction by the New York State Education Department.

“There is a wealth of knowledge and creativity among the dozens of superintendents that comprise AASA governance. Together, regardless of zip code, we can solve any problem put in our path,” said Camhi. “Being named president-elect of this great organization is a professional honor. A top priority is narrowing the digital divide that, unfortunately, prevails in our country. We must work tirelessly to provide equitable online access to each and every student learning and growing in our public schools today.”

Camhi earned her doctorate from Teacher’s College, Columbia University and two master’s degrees—one from Long Island University and the other from Adelphi University. Currently a member of the AASA Governing Board, she is also a graduate of the AASA National Superintendent Certification® program.

“The pandemic uprooted the typical school day and left school system leaders scrambling to ensure every household has broadband access,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA. “Shari Camhi is a futuristic leader and an innovator who will help make connectivity for all children a reality, not only in her community on Long Island, but communities throughout the country.”

Paul Imhoff, superintendent of Upper Arlington Schools in Upper Arlington, Ohio, was also sworn in today as AASA president. The installation ceremony was held in conjunction with AASA’s Legislative Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C.
