Recognizing Superintendents for Exemplary Family-School Partnerships and Commitment to Equitable Student Outcomes

Excellence in Family Engagement Award

Alexandria, Va. – (September 26, 2024) – AASA, The School Superintendents Association, in partnership with National PTA, is proud to announce the inaugural Excellence in Family Engagement Award. This prestigious award will recognize superintendents who have implemented exemplary best practices to integrate family engagement across strategic plans, budgets, and district infrastructure, fostering equitable outcomes for students through active family participation.

By recognizing superintendents who have embedded family engagement into the core of their leadership strategies, we hope to encourage more school leaders to adopt similar approaches and ensure that every family has a voice in shaping their child’s education.

The Excellence in Family Engagement Award serves as a powerful symbol to inspire other school system leaders to prioritize intentional family engagement within their districts. This recognition will contribute to national efforts that sustain both public and private funding for effective family-school partnerships, reinforcing the pivotal role of families in student success.

“When families are involved, students are more likely to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally,” said David R. Schuler, AASA Executive Director. “By recognizing superintendents who have embedded family engagement into the core of their leadership strategies, we hope to encourage more school leaders to adopt similar approaches and ensure that every family has a voice in shaping their child’s education.”

“National PTA has long advocated for family engagement and family-school partnerships as decades of research shows they are critical to student success and school improvement efforts,” added Yvonne Johnson, president of National PTA. “We are pleased to collaborate with AASA on this award, to highlight the meaningful work being done by superintendents to improve student outcomes by investing in family engagement and family-school partnerships.”
