Tammy Barbara
WHEN TAMMY BARBARA, AASA’s chief of staff, joined the association in spring 2016, she was hired to provide direct support to Dan Domenech, AASA’s executive director.

During Barbara’s first year, Domenech identified an opportunity for her to apply her skills and past experiences beyond the executive office. Principally, Barbara has been assigned to streamline AASA’s internal processes and procedures, a need precipitated by the organization’s fast-paced growth into new areas.

For 25 years, Barbara worked in the direct marketing arena in various fields ranging from the automotive industry to small nonprofits. With this background, she has helped AASA to create the new project management office.

The following interview by AASA staff member Rebecca Shaw has been edited for length and clarity.

What is your primary role at AASA as it relates to your chief of staff post?
The chief of staff is a new position created to assist the executive director in meeting his priorities and commitments, to implement process improvements and to increase the organization’s effectiveness. I provide direct support to Dan Domenech and serve with the other members of the leadership team to ensure AASA achieves its strategic objectives.
