STATE OF THE SUPERINTENDENCY

Bar grap breaking down concerns about superintendency by category and gender

When considering whether to apply for their first superintendency, 47 percent of incumbents indicated that the job’s impact on their families was the most significant reservation.

In a gender breakdown of the survey’s 467 responses by the New York State Council of School Superintendents, men ranked family impact as the foremost factor (29 percent). Among women, the politics of the job was the No. 1 reservation (23 percent).

During their time as a superintendent, 51 percent of men and 31 percent of women said they had school-age children.
