BOARD-SAVVY SUPERINTENDENT
It can be difficult for a governing board to find the right focus for its community. There are many competing priorities, and no system can address everything simultaneously.
Mental health issues, substance abuse and constant social media use all contribute to low student motivation, chronic absenteeism and unruly behavior at school. Teachers who feel undervalued by heavy workloads and mediocre pay are more likely to leave the school district.
Severe staff shortages mean unfilled positions and more teachers entering the classroom with provisional credentials, without the benefits of student teaching. Principals are stretched thin and fewer candidates are stepping into leadership roles at all levels.
