Less than a majority of superintendents (43 percent) believe their board of education members are very knowledgeable about K-12 education, according to a Gallup poll of the profession. In 2013, 55 percent held the same view.
“This decline
could be keeping superintendent engagement below what it could be, even if it is already above average compared with the engagement of other workers,” the study’s organizers said. The survey received more than 2,300 responses.
Asked for their opinions about school boards nationwide, superintendents are much less positive. Just 26 percent are confident that school districts are well-governed at the board level.
