My View

On the last day of the 2019-20 school year, New York City Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza sent a letter to families thanking parents for their sacrifices, describing the “senseless loss of more black lives” and emphasizing the common values that unite us.

In his back-to-school letter in the fall when all schools opened in remote mode, the chancellor described how he and the school system would be guided by those common values in their decision making.
