STATE OF THE SUPERINTENDENCY
Bar graph showing breakdown of men and women's geographic representation among the superintendency

Inequities persist among the regions of the country in the representation of women in the superintendency.

An ILO Group report in September that carried data about the 500 most populous school districts across the country indicated the Northeast was the lone geographic region to reach gender parity for superintendents, with 20 out of 37 superintendents (54%) being women.

Women superintendents in the Northeast experience turnover rates consistent with those elsewhere, with 22% experiencing turnover in the past year. Of the eight departing superintendents, three were succeeded by women.
