State of the Superintendency
Family Differences

About 87 percent of superintendents are married, though a 14 percent difference exists between men and women in the profession, according to a 2015 survey conducted by the New York State Council of School Superintendents.

Compared to a similar study three years earlier, the number of women identifying themselves as divorced/separated had increased slightly, while the number of men in that category had dropped slightly.

The 2015 survey reported a large difference in the number of men and women with school-aged children, figures that increased slightly for women and more significantly for men over a three-year period. The survey included responses from 411 New York superintendents.
