State of the Superintendency
Superintendent Skill Level

Of five broad skill areas relating to their work, superintendents indicated that school board relations ranks as their top area of ability, according to 351 responses from superintendents across New York state. This was true of veterans and novices (who were defined as those in their first five years as superintendents).

The largest disparities in perceived skill level between experienced and new superintendents showed up in the areas of business/finance and personnel management.
