Last fall, Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 found itself in the middle of a misinformation mishap. An inaccurate social media post about the district had gone viral. Early in the morning on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, school district employees arrived to find shoes adorning the sidewalk to the main entrance and posters plastered across the front doors as a public protest against the governor’s recently announced mandate requiring COVID-19 testing or proof of vaccination for all school staff.
