STATE OF THE SUPERINTENDENCY

Recent superintendent attrition ranges widely among the states.
By far, the state with the largest percentage of school districts experiencing a change in top leadership was West Virginia, where some 36 percent of districts had a superintendent transition between 2022-23 and 2023-24, according to The Superintendent Lab.
The lowest level of transitions was experienced in Oklahoma (5 percent), Vermont (11 percent) and Nevada (12 percent).
