BOARD-SAVVY SUPERINTENDENT
The dreaded superintendent evaluation. In my early years as superintendent, I asked the school board for goals and used the evaluation instrument left behind by the last superintendent. What a mess! It was dissatisfying for all of us.
The experience was epitomized best by this succinct comment from the school board president: “We know we have to evaluate your work, but what does that really mean? Is it useful to you? Or us?”
