Years in the Role

STATE OF THE SUPERINTENDENCY

Fewer than 25 percent of current superintendents have served in the top school district role for more than 10 years, a comparable total in the experience levels of a decade prior.

The current data come from a nationwide survey conducted by AASA last fall that attracted 2,706 responses.

In AASA’s 2013 survey, 24.9 percent of the 2,400 respondents said they had worked 11 or more years as superintendents.
